Patiala is also called the second Capital of Punjab , as many Deptts. have their head offices in Patiala.

Patiala became the Capital of The Patiala and Eastern Punjab States Union PEPSU which came into existence at the time of  re organisation of States in Augest ,1948.

Later PEPSU was merged in Punjab  in 1956
